Obtain and retrieve supplies as requested by the floor staff. Stock and re-stock supplies as needed. Assist during mealtime at the discretion of the nurse. Provide water or food to patients only after consulting with an appropriate nursing /medical staff. Perform errands to various areas in the hospital- Lab, Kitchen etc., but not to the Pharmacy. Maintain proper hand-washing techniques. Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate (assist with bed making only if the bed is empty). Distribute books and magazines to patients.
Assist with clerical work. Serve as messenger to any other parts of the Hospital Center. Operate various office equipment: answering the phone and directing calls; operating fax machine, paper shredder, copy machine and typewriter. Work effectively with others and without direct supervision: greet and direct visitors to appropriate personnel; meet with new visitors collecting and document significant information; communicating complete and accurate phone messages. Light typing and/or computer work as deemed necessary and appropriate.
